Acronyms For Our Covid Times!

On this first day of the Second Quarter (April Fools’ Day, no less) I offer Covid Acronyms for our times…

BC–Before Covid

DC–During Covid

AC–After Covid

BC– Before 2020–Of course this would be life as documented and remembered as it existed before 2020. Just check your own portfolios and libraries for images from these times.

DC2020 to the present time Generally most of the country has endured quarantines, lock downs, vaccine lines, shelter in place orders, etc., which only recently have been reduced reflecting improvements in conditions.

A typical image to represent the empty streets of this period…

AC–Of course the question now is how and when we will see our way to life After Covid…

NOW IS NOT THE TIME TO SUSPEND OUR VIGILANCE

To get to AC we must continue to follow the medical guidelines regarding mask wearing, social distancing…and getting your vaccine shots…Don’t be an April Fool!

Finally 2021!

2020

Fires…Covid Pandemic…Stay at Home Orders (Unless your home burned in the fires)…Power Shutdowns… Social & Political Unrest…The Election!!

To borrow from an old Roy Clark song: Dear 2020–“Thank God & Greyhound You’re Gone.”

2021

May 2021 bring us more positive images such as this from our front yard…

And Please…No more Wildfires in 2021…

Covid Vaccinations have started. Hooray! But note that it will take months for it to be distributed  and we must be patient for it to have the necessary effect to protect all of us. In the meantime, please continue to wear your masks in 2021 until advised they are no longer necessary—They are the best guarantee for a future without masks!!!!!

In making the transition to the New Year I offer this thought from a friend: “To all, stay healthy, Enjoy what you have and those with whom you have it.

In closing, I offer this message from a sign on a local business:

“Dear 2021: It’s a low bar. You’ve got this.”

Covid Endemic Pandemic Fire Times

Today begins the Last Quarter of 2020…a devastating year that will not be forgotten.

Life so far has managed to continue in our ‘Hood with Covid behavior modifications…

FOR EXAMPLE

Social Distancing Birthday Celebrations…

When outside wildfire air quality & temperature permits, many escape into their yards and gardens.  I, for one, noticed a very unusual black & yellow violet plant one day…

What will the future hold?

Unfortunately we will have to wait and endure whatever comes as 2020 succumbs and 2021 takes over. In my view, 2020 has merely set the stage tor even more challenging times ahead. Whatever the “new normal” may turn out to be, it will not be the same as before.

Think of the future as a Dynamic Puzzle without an image….where additional blank pieces are added as you work to complete it.  Yes, you can put it together by eventually matching the pieces thrown at you…but the final image will not appear for many many years…

BLOG POSTSCRIPTS

Posts this year have been at the start of each quarter–attempting to look ahead as opposed to reporting on the past quarter.

  • This post was set up on September 6, 2020 for publication on October 1st. The outside temperature was 112 degrees as I finished setting up the post!
  • By September 9th the skies were covered with smoke and haze from all the West Coast Fires…

It was so dark during the day that the outside light sensors on our house thought it was nighttime!

  • On September 18th listeners to KQED were invited to submit six word story summaries of their last six months. Here are a few I managed to write down…including the last one from God.

Tuning out parents…Hiding under earphones

Finally met neighbors after eight years

Slowly turning into a technological potato

Stay home don’t touch don’t breathe

Now my job is to survive

I feel like a hooked fish

Gave birth but now missing life

Brown leaves. Red sky. California burning

You look better in a mask

My sister died. I wasn’t there

Behind my mask I remain hopeful

Hibernation longer than most Grizzly Bears

Playing chess with friends by computer

“Don’t make me come down there”

IN CLOSING…

Hope to see you all again in 2021!

At least by then the Elections will be over!

They will be over, won’t they??

Hmmm…perhaps not.

If not, they may become a Social/Political Endemic Pandemic overpowering the others before us!

Scene(s) Of Our Pandemic & Endemic Times

As we start a new quarter I offer a few local images reflecting the challenge of the Worldwide Covid Pandemic and the consequences of our Endemic National Racism.

Endemic racial injustice generates worldwide protests once again and are reflected here in Petaluma…

..

While coping with the confluence of the Covid Pandemic & Endemic Racism, let us not forget the other Endemic issues before us–Wildfire Season, Poverty & Homelessness.

In closing I pose a question: When will the Covid Pandemic become Endemic?

_______

Perhaps it already has…

_______

Our task will be to constructively deal with all of the Endemic Winds of Change and to keep our tattered flags flying.

It will not be easy….
